Physician to Head National Organization

MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (June 12, 2003) Karen Lawson, M.D., was named president of the American Holistic Medical Association (AHMA) at its annual meeting on May 28.

Board-certified in holistic medicine and family practice, Dr. Lawson will provide leadership for board activities in the one-year appointment and serve as liaison between the AHMA and such organizations as the American Holistic Nurses Association.

At the University's Center for Spirituality and Healing since Fall 2002, Dr. Lawson directs the development of integrative clinical services that include treatment of eating disorders and chronic health conditions, and supports medical education efforts in complementary therapies and healing practices. She sees patients at The Marsh: A Center for Balance and Fitness in Minnetonka.

The 1,000-member AHMA provides holistic medicine education and support to physicians and other health care professionals and gives voice to the holistic medicine movement.
