Impact of Philanthropy

Through our work, the Center for Spirituality & Healing has become a national leader in interdisciplinary research, education, outreach and clinical care that promotes and enhances integrated health and wellness.

Building Capacity:

Philanthropic support has enabled the Center to develop an infrastructure that has supported extraordinary programming in educational, research and civic engagement. As a result, faculty and staff are well positioned to lead new initiatives in clinical program development.

Expanding Outreach:

Several individual donors and foundations have supported Center outreach programs that reach thousands of people each year through annual lectures, special conferences, workshops, and our consumer website.

Providing Student Support:

An emeritus faculty member, A. Marilyn Sime, established the Center’s first scholarship fund that supports students preparing for a research career in integrative health.

Support from the Marbrook Foundation funds field trips to explore indigenous healing practices in a graduate course called Ways of Thinking about Health.

Advancing Research:

A. Marilyn Sime also established a research fellowship program that provides a faculty member with 50 percent release time from teaching to further develop a research career in integrative health. Sime Fellows have conducted research in music therapy, natural products (tea tree oil), and Reiki.

New Program Development:

The Oswald Family Foundation provided funding to develop and subsequently expand the first Health Coaching Certificate program in the country.

The George Family Foundation funded the development of the health professional renewal program called Inner Life of Healers.
