Walter Willet Banner 402

Diet and Health: A Progress Report with Walter Willet, MD, PhD

For the last 20 years nutritional advice has shifted. Recent evidence has shown that, in what appears to be an optimal diet, most calories would come from a balance of whole grains and plant oils, proteins provided by a mix of beans, nuts, fish, eggs, and poultry, with the remaining nutritional needs filled by plenty of vegetables and a few fruits. Join Walter Willet’s “Diet and Health: A Progress Report” to explore the role of dairy products, the interrelationships between physical activity and genetic variations, the implications of our food choices on environmental sustainability, and how we move from today’s pathological diet to a more optimal way of eating. Interested in taking an MBSR course, but don’t want to commute to do it? Take one of our telephonic Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Courses and take advantage of the opportunity to participate from the comfort of your own home!

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide quality, integrated wellness programs, the University of Minnesota’s Center for Spirituality & Healing is pleased to offer a telephone-based version of the highly successful Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program (tMBSR). The tMBSR incorporates all the exercises and homework of the Center’s community MBSR, which is based on the program developed by practitioner and author Jon Kabat-Zinn.

The tMBSR begins with an in-person, all-day workshop, providing participants with the opportunity to meet face-to-face with the instructor and one another. The next six sessions are conducted via a web-based conference call. The tMBSR concludes with an in-person, all-day, mostly silent retreat.
