Culture, Faith Traditions,
and Health
by David Berg, MA, MDiv
Welcome! This online module provides an introduction
to the impact of culture and faith traditions on patient-provider
interactions and health outcomes. It will take approximately
2 and 1/2 hours to complete. (You don't have to do it all at once.)
In this module, you will find:
- Definitions of commonly-used concepts
- An opportunity to consider your own cultural perspective
- An exploration of the impact of culture on healthcare
interactions
- An overview of the National Standards for Culturally
and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in
Health Care
- A brief introduction to a variety of cultural
assessment tools
- Patient scenarios that illustrate the importance
of conducting a cultural assessment
We are all fellow travelers on a journey towards
cultural competence. This is a personal journey in
which you can explore more about yourself and the
role culture plays in your life. Additionally, this
journey will help you recognize how your worldview,
beliefs, and values affect your role as a healthcare
provider.
