Summary

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a system of medicine that is based upon the ancient Chinese concept of energy called "Qi" (pronounced "chee") and the theory of "yin and yang,"-- the harmony of opposites. It is perhaps the most frequently encountered and best known of medical systems from Asia.
  • Acupuncture is not synonymous with TCM-it is simply one of the treatment modalities used in TCM.
  • "Oriental medicine" is a term that is used to refer to a diverse collection of medical theories and applications developed and practiced in the Far East that share fundamental principles and theories that can be traced back at least 2500 years.
