What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a philosophy of health and a system of medicine that is based upon the ancient Chinese concept of energy called "Qi" (pronounced "chee") and the theory of "yin and yang"-- the harmony of opposites.

As a system of medicine, TCM works to help people in three ways:

  • As a guide to help people create and maintain harmony between the yin and yang aspects of their lives to cultivate health and well-being.
  • To identify the possible patterns of disharmony in life and enable people to take steps to prevent these patterns from creating illness and disease.
  • As a method to diagnose and correct patterns of disharmony when they do occur, and to gently and effectively treat the illnesses and sufferings these patterns of disharmony create.
