Range of Treatment Methods
A TCM practitioner can select from a number of treatment
modalities to either use with the patient in the clinic or
to instruct the patient to use at home. Acupuncture is perhaps
the most well known of the clinical treatment modalities,
but there are others.
Treatment modalities may be used individually or in combination,
but they are always chosen on the basis of the diagnosis and
treatment strategy. No one treatment modality is appropriate
in all circumstances.
Some of the TCM treatment modalities most commonly used in
the United States today include: acupuncture and acupressure;
moxibustion; dermal friction (gua sha); cupping; therapeutic
massage (tui na); dietary therapies; herbal therapies; and
Qi gong. We will discuss each in the following screens.
