Summary
- The guiding TCM treatment principle is to facilitate harmony
between yin and yang in the easiest and least invasive way
possible without creating further disharmony. TCM practitioners
seek to remove what is excessive and to replenish what is
deficient.
- The focus is always on the patient, not the disease, and
the treatment strategy must take into account not only the
patient's condition, diet and lifestyle, but also the patient's
family and community, as well as the environment in which
the patient lives.
- Some of the TCM treatment modalities most commonly used
in the United States today include: acupuncture; moxibustion;
dermal friction (gua sha); cupping; therapeutic massage
(tui na); dietary therapies; herbal therapies; and Qi gong.
