There are materials and directions for folding your own origami cranes provided in the hallway leading to the meditation space on the 3rd floor of Mayo Memorial Building. Come by to spend some time enjoying folding cranes as a meditative practice. Take your handmade crane home or leave them there for others to take and enjoy. Clinicians will learn specific tools and strategies for helping clients understand shame and develop shame resilience. It is a seed for growing an awareness of what happiness is in our lives. Sometimes, however, we need a little boost to remember and reinforce what we already know. This new course for those who have taken MBSR will provide the support and tools necessary to continue a path towards the life we desire. Students will continue to strengthen their mindfulness through guided meditations, mindful movement, loving-kindness, compassion, and interaction with others. Classes will focus on opening to the body, cultivating wholesome mind states, developing compassion, and getting unstuck from difficult thoughts. Each class will include new materials and additional practices that build upon the MBSR program. Held in the Mayo Meditation Space, the first class (June 20) and last class (August 15) may go until 9:30. Cost is $300. The club is non-religious affiliated, and is open to all students of all experience levels. Each week a local area mindfulness instructor leads the club in meditation, yoga, or qigong. The instruction emphasizes practical techniques for managing stress, lowering anxiety, and increasing concentration. On a deeper level, students are taught how to experience life from moment to moment by becoming more attentive to thoughts and sensations in the mind and body. Membership is open students, faculty and the public. We offer student led meditation and brief yoga and qigong exercises every week. The focus of these sessions is to develop inner peace and balance through the practice of meditation. Bag lunch begins at 12:10. Meditation begins at 12:45 with short movement and discussion.
