Kristin Neff, PhD, one of the world’s leading experts in the field of self-compassion, visited the Center for Spirituality & Healing as a Wellbeing Lecture Series speaker in 2014. Her innovative work — encompassing more than a decade’s worth of research and measurement — aligns closely with the Center’s focus on wellbeing, and also with its flourishing mindfulness program.

There has been a lot of attention recently on bullying in schools and the detrimental impact on students' mental health and wellbeing. In 2015, the Minnesota Senate passed a bill that requires school districts to develop and enforce a plan to reduce bullying. Not surprisingly, bullying doesn't end on the playground.

But it’s important to give our minds and bodies a break; our wellbeing and productivity depend on it. “Research has shown that we literally can’t do it all,” says Mary Jo Kreitzer, Ph.D., R.N., founder and director of the Center for Spirituality & Healing at the University of Minnesota. “When we’re trying to do too many things at once, we’re dividing our brain up and putting less effort and level of detail into each individual activity.”
