Online Therapeutic Yoga Series

The therapeutic yoga series offers a unique approach to yoga and is designed specifically for individuals seeking relief from specific patterns of dis-ease in both mind and body. Unlike regular group yoga classes at studios or gyms, this series focuses on creating ease and comfort by targeting specific areas of the body or patterns of the mind. 

Each series consists of four sessions, each lasting one hour. Whether you're a seasoned yogi or completely new to yoga, all levels of experience (or no experience at all) are welcome to participate. The gentle exercises can be easily practiced in the comfort and privacy of your own home. 

All sessions take place live, online via Zoom. You are welcome to attend one or all three series. Recordings will be made available to registrants for one month, for those who would like to revisit the sessions or who are unable to attend the live sessions.

Series 1: Reducing Low Back & Hip Pain

Discover techniques to relieve low back and hip pain using therapeutic yoga. This series will delve into the root causes of discomfort and provide practical solutions to transform your lifestyle routines. Through a combination of education and hands-on practice, you'll learn effective stretching, strengthening, and relaxation techniques.

By the end of this series, you will gain an understanding of:

  • The common culprits behind low back and hip pain
  • Lifestyle management strategies to alleviate discomfort and promote wellbeing
  • Targeted exercises specifically designed to stretch and strengthen the low back and hips
  • Powerful methods to calm your nervous system, effectively reducing chronic pain through yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation

Series 2: Reducing Upper Back and Neck Pain

This series uses therapeutic yoga techniques to uncover the causes of upper back and neck pain and explore effective solutions to improve your daily routines. Our expert facilitator will provide practical practice ideas for stretching, strengthening, and relaxation.

By the end of this series, you will gain an understanding of:

  • Identifying the common causes of upper back and neck pain
  • Discovering lifestyle management activities to find relief and enhance your wellbeing
  • Learning specific stretching and strengthening exercises tailored to target the upper back and neck
  • Exploring powerful techniques to calm your nervous system, effectively reducing chronic pain through yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation

This series is designed to help you take control of your upper back and neck health by equipping yourself with the tools to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and experience a newfound sense of ease and wellbeing.

Series 3: Pacifying Insomnia & Anxiety

This series sheds light on the causes of insomnia and anxiety while offering practical strategies to transform your lifestyle routines. Our expert facilitator will guide you through practice ideas for stretching, strengthening, and relaxation, specifically tailored to alleviate these challenges. The sessions will provide an opportunity to restore balance, find serenity, and embrace restful sleep. 

By the end of this series, you will gain an understanding of:

  • Understanding the common causes of insomnia and anxiety
  • Exploring lifestyle management activities that promote better sleep and overall wellbeing
  • Discovering effective techniques to calm your nervous system, reducing anxiety and facilitating restful nights through the integration of yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation.

This series is designed to help you take charge of your sleep quality and mental wellbeing by pacifying insomnia and anxiety through the power of therapeutic yoga.

Who the Therapeutic Yoga Series is For

The series is open to everyone, and all are welcome to attend regardless of their yoga experience or skill level. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or new to yoga, our therapeutic yoga series is designed to accommodate individuals of all levels.

No matter where you are on your yoga journey, the facilitator will provide guidance and support to ensure that each participant feels comfortable. The sessions will be structured in a way that allows individuals to progress at their own pace and modify the exercises as needed.

Program Terms

The therapeutic yoga series includes skill training or practice in relaxation and meditation methods as well as gentle stretching (yoga) exercises. I understand that if for any reason I am unable to, or think it unwise to engage in these techniques and exercises, I am under no obligation to engage in these techniques nor will I hold the University of Minnesota liable for any injury sustained from these exercises.

Expectations

  • Engaging sessions: Each session will provide a comprehensive understanding of the targeted topic, combining theoretical knowledge with practical exercises.
  • Gentle Practices: The exercises will be gentle and accessible to all levels of experience, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

Requirements

  • Access to Zoom: Participants will need a computer, laptop, or mobile device with a stable internet connection to join the sessions conducted through the Zoom platform.
  • Comfortable space: Create a quiet and comfortable space where you can practice yoga without distractions.
  • Yoga mat and props: It is recommended to have a yoga mat for your practice. Depending on the specific series, certain props such as blocks, straps, or blankets may be suggested. However, modifications and alternatives will be provided if you don't have access to props.

  • Workshop Materials: Participants will receive digital workshop materials, including summaries, handouts, and additional resources to support their learning and practice.
  • Recorded Sessions: For your convenience, recordings of each session will be made available for 30 days, allowing you to revisit the content and practice at your own pace.
